Jeff hand builds each of these unique hollow tiles. He first rolls out slabs of clay for the front, back and sides and assembles these pieces into a 10" x 10 " hollow tile. the initial phase of design is applied and then bisque fired. Then more of the design is done using a variety of techniques such as underglaze stains and glazes.
The final firing is to cone 10 which vitrifies the piece and brings the colors out in the glazes. They are then mounted for wall display inside or outside, though not in direct rain, making them ideal for entryways, foyers or walls adjacent to a deck as well as any interior wall. They are also available un-mounted for free-form installation.
The floor vases are also slab built and the designs process is simlar to the tile murals.
